Admissions

Admission to MIT, just like any ivy league college is difficult. MIT's admission rate for students entering the fall of 2001 was 16%.

Currently the only advice I have is to pay close attention to the application itself. Spend a generous amount of time writing your essays and deciding what topics best reveal your character and ability. Given the tremendous strength of each year's applicants, you need to distinguish yourself from the crowd in one way or another. Sure, top notch grades and class valedictorian are special, but not at MIT. According to statistics given by the admissions office:

• 51% of admitted students earned straight "A" grades in high school
• 47% of those who are ranked are #1 in their high school class
• SAT mean scores - Verbal 724, Math 760

Concentrate, prepare your materials carefully, and good luck.
